Archery - Fast Shooting
By - MrNoName_ishere
I want to see how tight the grouping is after shooting that fast.
Right? The cops can get 40 shots off in 5 secs but seem to hit a small percentage
Ever watched a storm trooper? :)
storm trooper are conscripted trash!
The conscripted storm troopers are trash*
Haha. Yes.. phrasing
Except they're not tho?
Example 1: They breach a single entry-point corridor against a prepared opponent on the Tantive IV, take that corridor, and then succeed in taking the ship. Not only do they take the corridor, they suffer minimal losses and inflict heavy enough losses against the opponent to break their will to fight, even knowing that a leader of the Rebellion was on board. These rebels were ballsy enough to deny an action to their dying breath that Vader *watched them do*. Their willingness to stand in front of determined stormtroopers was still broken.
Example 2: They breach the cell block door on the Death Star against a prepared opponent and engage in a determined firefight to herd their opponents across a battlestation the size of a small moon with minimal losses while making sure a Navy crew had time to install a tracking device on a captured ship that wasn't detected that led their most powerful weapon to the primary base of their biggest opponent. They are so masterful in their ability to guide the Rebels around the Death Star that Han, a former Imperial soldier is completely disbelieving of the fact that he was herded.
Example 3: They push down a single corridor exit point from a facility into a prepared commando force during Rogue One, taking heavy losses, and pushed the commando force off their positions while under fire. Multiple specialized troopers utilize terrain and covering fire against their opponents and repeatedly utilize tactics that allow fire support vehicles to engage and assist with the rout.
Example 4: Against a force of mandalorian super-comandoes led by a bounty hunter in armor impervious to their weapons, they continue to engage despite the risk of literally getting thrown off a flying starship, and fight to the last man even in the face of a tactically superior foe with zero chance of success.
Don't mind me. I just get frustrated when people throw out that troopers are trash. The Imperial Remnant in The Mandalorian is definitely the product of "the kids are wearing dad's shoes" but even the troopers there show some decent accuracy again Din, and he is saved only by his armor and unique weaponry designed to fight against multiple assailants.
That being said, I'm aware the prevailing theory stormies are trash, and I'm not gonna win, but sometimes I just have to nerd my heart out.
Hey! A question I can answer!
I'm a "Primitive Archer". Our bows are all basically versions of stick-and-string bows. My personal favorites are the [English Longbow ](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_longbow) and the [Mongol Horse Bow](http://www..com/"Horse bows" https://www.thelongbowshop.com/collections/horse-bows) *Edit: looks like this is what the woman is using.
**dammit....can't get a link to work for that second one. Just Google "Mongol Horse Bow"
In short, I can fire off 3 arrows in the same time it takes for a compound bow to shoot 1. The compound bow wins for accuracy tho.
Arrow quality is huge when it comes to accuracy. Part of why I enjoy the hobby is making my own arrows using cedar shafts and turkey feathers. No matter how well I make an arrow, it will never be perfectly straight or the fletching might be slightly misaligned which will contribute to a less effective flight path.
Modern compound bows and arrows will outshine a primitive bow in almost every way that matters when you're trying to kill something. Primitive and compound don't usually compete against each other officially. Our shooting clubs will usually compare shots just because we are all at the same ranges together.
I can usually put 18-20 arrows into a 1 foot circle at 20 yards in the same time a modern archer can do 6. At 30 yards the score will be more like my 10 to his 6. At 40 yards or more the modern archer wins.
If anyone wants to learn more about primitive archery I'd be happy to answer questions. A person could probably set themselves up with a good bow, arrows and target for under $300!
This was a cool post, thanks for elaborating!
This is super fascinating, thanks for sharing! How exactly do you get started? Ive always wanted to get into archery, but I am from a small town with no resources except for compound bow hunters.
Clubs! I had the same problem at first. Very limited info because everyone here are modern bow hunters.
I found that our local Renaissance Faire group had archers, so I started asking questions via email and eventually began joining some of their meetings. They took a bit of time to warm up to but once they saw I was truly interested in learning archery they opened up and were eager to teach me! They set me up with equipment to use until I got my own and even taught me how to make my own bows! They're still a WEALTH of knowledge.
Check out their site. You might be able to find your own local "Barony". "Society for Creative Anachronism - SCA" http://www.renaissancefairefestival.com/society_for_creative_anachronism_sca.htm
BTW....get comfortable with the idea of wearing woolen tights right now.
If Comanches and Mongols were to meet on the battlefield, equal numbers, who would be victorious?
That question is above my pay grade. Probably depends on a LOT of things.
Hi, I haven't shot in a long time. I shot compound and don't understand a few things in this video. Mainly the technique. One of the things I was always super careful of was not getting the wrist of the hand holding the bow too close to the blowstring. In the video, the archer is shooting....I mean, the whole thing looks weird and wrong to me. Like her arm is the arrow rest. Is that how recurve is shot?? Also, the arrow is on the wrong side of the bow...but hey, if that's what works.
>Like her arm is the arrow rest
I'm not sure what you mean there. If you mean her hand, that's because it is. Early bows didn't have shelves like modern recurves or flatbows do, so the arrow rests on the hand when shot. This would go for all bows, recurve, horsebow, longbow...
>Also, the arrow is on the wrong side of the bow
The arrow is on the correct side of the bow for her draw style, which is "thumb draw". This technique torques the string in a different direction to other common draw techniques, which means the arrow is held on the other side of the bow to prevent it twisting away from the bow during the draw.
I've found that getting my wrist slapped is a sign that my string needs to be tightened. When my string is at the right tension I don't worry about enough to even wear wrist gaurds.
Your second link is borked, but I appreciate the info! People are actually selling laminated "Mongol" bows on Etsy, which was news to me.
Yeah, I don't know why it won't work.
I dunno if I'd buy an Etsy bow unless the seller has a good history with that stuff. Don't be afraid to try a simple, cheap recurve bow to start with. If you catch the bug then move up to a better one. I think I spent $150 on my Longbow.
I think....again, I don't have sources, but I've heard those Composite Mongol bows were some of the first composite bows the world saw! They're a pleasure to shoot! A 70lb Mongol bow pulls like a 50lb longbow!
Yeah, I don't know why it won't work. If you google Mongol Horse Bow you should get things that are close enough
Out of curiosity, what is the draw weight on the primitive bows you use? Just saw a video of Lars Anderson and all of the self-proclaimed archers in the comments section seemed to be bashing him for his lack of athleticism and his “comically underweight” draw.
My go-to bow is a modified English Longbow with a 55lb draw weight.
It's a single peice of hickory, 72 inches long with a 30 inch draw. That's kind of important because a bows draw weight is targeted at a specific draw length. If a tall guy likes me draws past the normal 28" the draw weight "compounds" and becomes unpredictable. Could cause your arrow to shatter.
Oh yeah, arrows are "spined" or graded. You don't want to waste bow energy firing an arrow that's too stiff or heavy for your bow. Also, shattering an arrow in your face because it wasn't heavy-duty enough for your He-Man bow is unpleasant.
I say modified because most longbow archers just rest their arrow on the top finger or thumb of the hand holding the bow. I suck at that so I carved an arrow rest and padded it with bear hair. Otherwise is pretty close.
The "pretty close" bit is important. Longbows used in war 1000 years ago had SIGNIFICANTLY higher pull weights....like 100lbs or more! I don't have sources to back it up, but I have heard that we can tell an ancient archer by the deformations in the arm bones they draw the bow with.
Modern men's Olympic bows will be in the 40-50lbs draw weight. Women's will be 30-40ish. Trick shooters will use 20ish draw weights. When you're just going for accuracy you won't want to practice with a heavy draw....you'll wear your arm out fast.
I could kill a deer or similar sized animal with a my bow, but thicker skin will need a heavier draw. This is part of why compound bows are so great!
Ah. Was wondering about the draw weight on your longbow. I know nothing about archery, but a bit about English history. I know the classic longbow soldiers trained from the time they were children to be able to wield them. 55 pounds is still pretty brutal though. Wonder if your bones have changed at all?
Hah! My bones have probably been more affected by age than anything. Otherwise yeah, an archer 1000 years ago would have been using a bow with a draw of over 100lbs easily.
Lars was widely ridiculed in the archery community for his incredibly false claims that didn't tie with historical fact, as well as the fact that a high poundage bow (such as is used for war) is very difficult to fire at the rates he claimed.
General consensus was that Lars is a fantastic trick shooter, but an awful historian.
It's easy to see from the videos of Lars that the bow he uses must be under 40lb draw weight, which is on the low end of target archery draw weights. A war bow would be double that, the famous English longbow having a draw weight of 100-200lb.
But in a war, would a bow with such a low draw weight still kill people?
Considering everybody in a war situation would be wearing some kind of armor then definitely not. Thats for a 40lb~ bow. However most of the time he is using a bow closer to 20-30lbs and never really full drawing the bow(a bows draw weight is measured at full draw usually between 28"-32").
Not too tight. The basketball team scattered after the first shot.
Why don’t you watch the video. They show her shots landing on the target.
They hit the target, which is fairly large, but many of them hit wildly different places on the target
I mean I'm impressed she hit the middle target consistently at that speed. You can see the grouping is fairly scattered by where the target moves first when hit, but its impressive none the less.
That being said id love to see her shoot at a mannequin or something see how many she gets out of ten.
Oh exactly. Like I'm not doubting her talent at all, just saying accuracy is far more valuable than speed.
Watch it through a little longer. It's answered: \_hella\_ tight.
it only belongs here if she was hitting a target accurately
Why? Maybe she's practicing shooting into a melee because her Lord Commander doesn't value the foreign mercenaries he hired to be the front line combatants for the kingdom's military, so accuracy is irrelevant!
We’ll hit their soldiers as well...
You can see towards the end of the clip that she's at least reasonably accurate - still really impressive and not as easy as she makes it look at all.
Nah bro the neckbeards know better bro they watched game of thrones bro girls cant shoot bows bro thats man bro shit bro ask roe jogan bro i can shoot way better than her standing still at 20 yards with my compound bro its easy bro
That is actually slow. People can shoot multiple arrows in a single second.
This guy shoots 10 arrows in 4.9 seconds, thats fast.
They show this girl's picture in the video you linked as one of that guys "closest competitors". So yeah he is faster but it doesn't seem like she's just some random person and definitely not "actually slow".
This was my first thought too. Not only is that guy bad ass for being able to do it, but he found it was historical accurate. And has encouraged others to pick it up.
didn’t lars anderson get called out for faking his shots?
What's the draw weight on that bow? Like 5 pounds.
Doesn't seem to be a whole lot does it? I'd like to see them actually hitting a normal target. You might get an idea based on how far the arrow went in.
I swear I saw one of the arrows fall down after hitting free hanging cloth...unless the arrows were super dull maybe?
Free flowing cloth actually makes surprisingly great armor against arrows. The Japanese Calvary used capes for this very reason
But also because it looks badass
Better hope you have her as your zombie apocalypse buddy
Have you ever heard of [Lars Andersen](https://youtu.be/BEG-ly9tQGk)?
For me it’s not so much her doing it as just seeing that someone could shoot that fast. Imagine the mongols or Huns doing that from the back of a horse. You’re a roman legionnaire and you’re being sprayed by arrows and powerless to stop it. Really puts into perspective why they were such dominant forces.
Dan Carlin really broke down how insane the mongols and Huns were on horseback. Kids that grow up shooting arrows accurately while riding backwards on a saddle-less horse.
Can’t use a saddle with balls that big
crassus would definitely agree with you
Very well put there
*That still only counts as one!*
Not saying it isn’t fast, but it kinda seems like she could be doing it faster if she wanted to. She looks relaxed as hell
Probably a balance of speed and accuracy
Makes me quiver just watching this.
She is an elf!
Rupert Grint here needs "THE RENNER-REFILLER" spell.
I didnt see her hit the target that much
RONALD WEASLEY PUT DOWN YOUR BOW
Real life Green Arrow
Nah it's the real life brave girl
When the ender dragon won’t land:
She would be a bad Ass in the Walking Dead
Me in video games tryna Brest the boss without getting to close
No Full auto in the building
I’ve seen this one. Then she turns her mom into a bear!
idk man i saw a video on here of a guy throwing a tictac in the air and hitting it... also another guy shooting an arrow up in the air and then shoot it with another arrow on the way down without even fuckin lookin
They could have used her at the battle of Helm’s Deep
Thats fine if your target is a big carpet
This is not next. fucking. level.
Also can someone translate what they are saying
I want her on my side when I battle house Lannister for the Iron Throne.
She volunteers as tribute
I feel like she’s going to topple an oppressor before she’s finished.
Skill level up! Archery lvl 1 -> lv2
Attack speed increased by 0.5% when using a bow.
Now that’s some grade A skirmishing!
that isnt fast
I guess Ron Weasley gave up on wizardry and decided to take up archery. Good choice.
I would have loved it if this video panned right and the arrows were just all over the fucking place, one in the ceiling, three out the window, four in the floor
She plays Skyrim
I didnt know that Ron Weasley was in the hunger games
Ron Weasley killin' it
Ron changed quite a bit after Hogwarts
String pull of 1lb.
That's an adorable target bow.
Now try a real one.
Legend has it that she missed every shot
Probably missed the target every time. This is dumb af
It would be cooler if we got the shot of what she's shooting at and what the general accuracy is. Otherwise, I'm not impressed.
Yeah but if she ain’t hit anything doesn’t matter
Don't you get kicked out of summer camp for that kind of behavior?
Offspring of the real Robin Hood 🤔
I think I met this lady in the chivalry 2 beta
Ok that is Natasha Romanov!!
Not even Merida herself could do better
Aloy? Is that you?
Man the person she was shoot be looking like a hedgehog.
The brain dead apex meta rn
May the odds be ever in your favour
She’s just holding the button down
We clearly need legislation to limit quiver capacity.
She better than me in FarCry
lethal tempo IRL
and that's how you destroy the entirety of the french nobilty in less than one afternoon, kiddos .\_.
Anyone else humming the Horizon Zero Dawn theme music right now??
So when is Horizon Zero Dawn coming to theaters?
Now I wanna see her do that while sliding down a staircase on top of an Uruk-hai
legolas was faster
The bow and arrow was the equivalent of a machine gun technologically in its day.
She's so fantastic, I can't believe it. People do you know how difficult that is?
Hawkeye would be proud......or challenged
Imagine what the Parthians could do.
Why? To get it over with??
Reminds me of the lycan archers from resident evil village when you play at max difficulty
shes deffo has 200m Ranged xp
link in OoT and MM:
Oh Christ, I see Hawkeye and black widow had a kid
POV: you're playing a stealth archer in skyrim and you get detected by a frostbite spider
If Legolas and the girl from Brave had a baby
Everyone in Apex rn
What I imagine tower defense would look like in real life.
Why is black widow taking archery target practice? Is this BTS from the new movie?
We Need to Talk About Kevin
10 points to Hufflepuff!
Recroom vr moment
I select her for my team when the zombies come.
Just put the quiver on the side of the arm holding the bow for faster shooting
Dude this girl is a bad ass.
Damn the Hanzo rework is lookin wild
Since when is Ronald Weasley and archery girl?
So basically playing apex legends in real life?
37, 38, 39, 40, 41
Watch out, Legolas..... she’s coming for your crown!
Hawkeye when he meets someone better than him: No one would know.
Sometimes the bow is stronger than the wand
If you practice enough it becomes muscle memory 👍
Now she'll survive in the apocalypse
Legolas Legolas Legolas -Coach Hines
Little Anne Cuthbert grew up and is not to be fucked with.
A lego”lass” if you would
Yo it’s Katniss
I feel bad for thinking she could be Ron Weasley's twin sister.
So does she need a nfa stamp or.......
but muum , it’s just me boooOoW
I’m not anti archery..but nobody NEEDS to shoot so many arrows so quickly..I think it’s common sense that all archers be limited to 5 arrows..unless you’re a trained professional, anything more than 5 is just too dangerous to the public
Horizont zero dawn
If I don't have to hit something specific I feel like I could do that.
Dont ever date and disapoint this woman
Heyyy its footage of every one of my skyrim fights!!
... AND MY AXE!
This is some rangers apprentice stuff
So hit rate of .001?
She's watched Hunger Games 1000 times.
I'm curious, how effective would this be agains simple cloth, leather, studded, chain, plate armor and so on? Look great though
Isn't she shooting the arrows on the wrong side of the bow? The arrow side for arrows or is that just old fashion technique?
She makes Hawkeye's job look boring.
Slow is smooth and smooth is fast.
Her hair is cut at the perfect length so it doesn’t get in the way.
Fully semi-automatic assault bow.
This is cool but weren’t quivers worn from the hip historically?
Medieval school shooting
Better than the call of duty players that use the sparrow/flaming bow
Quick scoping on a bow be like
TWACK-50, THWACK-50, THWACK-35, THWACK-5, THWACK-35, THWACK-MYDRINK, THWACK-PATRICIA!
Okay, real life Robin Hood.
Not saying she hasnt skill but thats a very light bow. An actual strong bow takes a lot of force to draw.
